A Cormorant in Need of a Helping Hand
/in Launstein Imagery Blog/by John LaunsteinDuring the last week of September, 2019, the area where we live in southwestern Alberta was part of a Winter Storm Advisory from Environment Canada. As the weekend drew near, the forecasts and warnings grew more and more ominous, eventually warning residents to prepare for a “historic storm.” Sure enough, it lived up to the hype, with some locations in our region receiving over 100cm(!) by the time the snow quit falling on Monday. Getting together with other top young conservation photographers…
/in Launstein Imagery Blog/by John LaunsteinWe had the privilege of being joined by top young photographers Josh Burch Photography (UK) and Ashleigh Scully Photography (US) recently for a whirlwind tour of SW Alberta! Despite the compressed time, we still logged 14 bears on our day with them including grizzly, black, brown and cinnamon-phased black bears, and even a special spotting of a nearly-white blonde-phase black bear sow being courted by a big dark brown boar! Our Wildlife Art Gallery in the Crowsnest Pass celebrates its 1yr Anniversary!
/in In the News, Launstein Imagery Blog/by John LaunsteinWe’re 1 year old! We’ve had an amazing first year at our Wildlife Art Gallery in the Crowsnest Pass!
We’ve met hundreds of fellow wildlife lovers from around the world and shared our art and the stories behind it with more people than we ever could have imagined. It’s been such a privilege to carefully package framed prints, flat prints, archival metal and acrylic prints, canvases and more to bring warmth and cheer to homes from British Columbia to Michigan, from Texas to Atlantic Canada, and a whole lot of Alberta too! We’ve chatted with fellow artists, discussed conservation issues with biologists and photographers, listened to stories of wildlife sightings from local folks and tourists alike. We’ve added new releases to our lineup, new artisans to the gallery, and even opened a second area filled with solid deals on framed open edition prints. It’s been a GREAT year! Read more

COGS is a collection of unique, one-of-a-kind gifts and home decor inspired by nature, and we are so honoured to expand our gallery to their walls! Read more
2016 Favourites from John, Jenaya & Josiah Launstein
/in Launstein Imagery Blog/by John LaunsteinIt’s that time of the year when photographers put together a list of favourite images from the past 12 months. We’ve enjoyed doing the same, but have always struggled with the tension of separating favourite memories and experiences from the images themselves. This year had some pretty crazy developments for our family of wildlife and conservation photographers, so we decided to do something a little different: each of us (John, Jenaya–now 19–and Josiah–now 12) chose one favourite image, one favourite experience, and one bestselling print as chosen by our collectors and gallery clients.
